Noctil

"May the land of Illiya hear our Dragonsong."

  Class: Wyvern Rider
Weapon: Lance  "Dagrún"  Abilities:        Blacksmith: She's no good at forging new weapons or armor on her own, but her skills are ample enough for maintaining her lance and suit.       Sewing/Weaving: Beneath her armor is a lining of fabric netting for comfort and insulation, so she has taken up these skills in her spare time to take care of it. Sometimes she can be found practicing on any thread or yarn she finds. She may even make a little patch for your clothes to show her affection. They may be odd shapes or some other symbol that she thinks represents you. She once sewed an icon of a runny nose on her grandmother's nightgown. (She was not thrilled).        Piano: While living in her grandmother's residence, she has been taught to play piano. She can mimic most music of the day and can make up a tune of her own at any time due to heavy instruction by the old woman. She may be seen at parties or other formal gatherings as the pianist for the evening if her grandmother is present. When asked if she enjoys playing, one would receive a mixed response.        Coordination: Syona is very acrobatic as a result of her training as a Wyvern rider. Her balance and reflexes are impressive, easily noted in casual circumstances where she may catch something completely out of reach in the blink of an eye. She can maneuver eloquently with her small frame and she uses this flexibility to her advantage in evading attack. Her armor is purposely lacking in regions to support her movements, whereas she will be riding Tharos to guard her exposed front.

Wyvern:

Tharos - Raised and tamed by Syona's father, she took custody of this adult wyvern after her father had been slain. Tharos is a well-tempered, patient, and very obedient companion that does not share the same hate of firebirds which Syona does. He appears lazy in any other times than battle, proving to be her most hardworking, loyal mount and defender.

[ Prejudice || Temperamental || Callous || Reckless

Syona has a very bitter attitude toward Soleil with good reason. Like many Noctilitans, she has suffered the losses of war from the fire-feathered enemies and has developed a zero-tolerance for the sight and speak of Illiya's counterpart nation. Her patriotism to Noctil is strong enough to disregard the humanity of the Soleilian army, feeling no remorse when she is to strike them down in battle. She has a temper which sparks the second something irks her, and typically lacks the patience to tolerate anyone who gets on her nerves. Syona is rough around the edges at best, and it doesn't take much to fire her up. She takes risks in battle when angered enough, often times letting her hateful rage power her through the most dire of fights.    On the other hand, this fiery energy also makes her passionate. Whatever Syona does, she does it with all she has. It is her vision like the rest of Noctil to see a united Illiya but not by the means of the Soreilian tyranny. She is determined to fight for her cause and do what it takes to clear her brother's name. She speaks nothing but the truth as far as she knows it, and will never respect anyone who will not honor the same.
 History:

"Children of the land do you hear

Echoes of truths that once rang clear

Two souls intertwined

One true love they did find

Bringing land and heavens near

But flames that burn full bright, soon fell dark

Memories dimmed by shadowed hearts

In the waxing gloom did wane the lover's moon

Watching as their worlds drift apart"
-DragonSong, (FFXIV Heavensward)

The Rotaveles did not acquire their fortune by the merchants bartering jewels to fools taking polished rock for gold. Nor did they cheat, lie and steal the seats of conniving political powers with the distraction of war at their behest. Not a drop of royal blood runs through their veins yet the utterance of the name peaks interest wherever it is mentioned.

Rotavele is a name tied to the war itself, generations of the family serving Noctil's front lines in unwavering fervor. At every family reunion, tales are passed from the old to the young of battle scars and those the family has lost but will not be forgotten. In these gatherings, it would be expected to hear horribly derogatory, dehumanizing theories of the Soleilians. Anyone who would speak their minds against it would not be trusted here. Their lives prospered by the people's praise of their efforts, though they were still just any family fighting for their cause. The gold bestowed upon them resulted from years of saving every tip granted to them, once living humbly and struggling to serve the table. They would not forget from whence they came, and do not seek pleasure in ridiculous spending.

Understandably, Syona had grown with prejudice. Never would she hear the Soleilian side of loss, strife and injustice. She was lead to rest assured they simply were not people.

The sunbirds scarred Illiya in their abhorred manifest destiny. Her family was renown for sending their sons to fight for justice so ingrained in their blood. From her father to his father and his own and the next, their honor and life's worth had only just begun when they'd be appointed command of their own men, leading soldiers to the field with the teachings of all their fathers in the handles of any weapon they wished.

Some grew old and died with glory and wisdom. Others only took their honor in vain. The family was large enough to handle the blows to keep their name in history. Their contributions to Noctile's power were endless, and never had the Rotavele name been slandered. Weath followed this family in their loyal, unrelenting service to their home. That was their legacy.

It would be the mistake of Cuinn Rotavele to change it. A promising soldier, he served the fleet of Noctilitans just as his father, his father's father, and all before him. A strategist, he aided his commanders in sending less men to battle yet still emerging brilliantly victorious. He rose through ranks not by his combat but for his ideas. Only good news would follow this young man and he was one of few to provide such reverberating confidence in treacherous times. He fought for the people, adored in his greatness, philosophies and honesty.

Syona would hear more tales of him than to see him home. But whenever he did come, their times were precious. He was homely, gentle and loving. He never told her to hate the Soleilians, and when she would cheer for his victories over the feathered scum, he'd hush her and stare in naught but pity. She never understood why he made faces like that. He'd always say, "The phoenix's tail is the dragon's breath. Illiya is but an Ouroboros of calamity."

It infuriated her to hear such passive claims. Where was his patriotism?! It was undeniable the family questioned the same. But so long as his contributions continued to bask their name with praise and power, their doubts remained behind closed doors.

It would be a quiet umbral evening when the Rotavele name would be stained thereafter. After returning from an Eastern outpost, he brought with him three brothers whom he regarded as close friends. He had met them as new recruits to the Noctilitan force and took his time to mentor them. He taught them to fight and taught them to win. They continuously served him well and without question, until news was delivered their family slain.

It was in Cuinn's best efforts to see to the needs of his men. To observe the destruction of their home and kin scarred his heart. He took them home to reside as Rotaveles without question, their gratitude as tangible as the tears they shed in his kindness. With aid and succor, the men became a part of the family. Syona recalled of them fondly, but typically stuck to childlike observation. The rest of the family held no judgment on the matter and also politely welcomed the men, for they were sworn at an oath with the dragon.

These men were not as honest as the Rotavele. They did not have the honor, prestige or wealth the family carried. They never had anything to lose, and the tears that fell in gratitude of Cuinn's hospitality accompanied the laughter that rang in their minds. Their ploy was disastrously simple- to garb the preaching of the dragon and burn them from the inside out. As the family had slept, the loathsome trio revealed themselves as Soleilian spies, raiding the estate for information containing General Zeal's next orders. When the fools would find nothing, they took to slaughter. The unprepared mother and father were struck before they could put up arms.

Cuinn did not fight the trio, instead grabbing Syona, harnessing their father's Wyvern and fleeing the scene. After a day and night's travel in the woods they would arrive at Grandmother's hermit little home. He would leave her there, returning on foot to Noctil's court to confirm his own exile, casting him out to die.

Syona would grow under her grandmother's care. She believes her brother is innocent, his exile undeserved. Her hatred of Soleil and its people will not cease until the war is won. Whether Cuinn is now prisoner behind Soleilian walls or wanders the breadths of Midgard alone she doesn't know, but she is sure he remains alive. Her desire to fight for Noctil's victory is akin to finding him and clearing his name for the people they serve. C O N T A C T

[  T I M E Z O N E :   C D T  [ U T C - 6]  ]    Style: Lit || Status: Spontaneous    Please note I am a college student with a hectic schedule and my sleep switches between comatose and insomniac any day of the week. I often drop RPs that I do not find engaging enough. Even for the ones I enjoy, I may delay over a week to reply. I will do my best to keep up or at least let you know exactly what's going on. Many times, I put art over RP for my use of spare time, which is usually the sole reason for my delay. I LOVE walls, and will often write them, therefore expect them in return (not always, of course! I have plenty of short spurts too, especially in the beginning. But in-depth writing really brings out the best in what I'm trying to do). Being so, I may delay a reply because I want to save it for a time I know I can sit or lie down to type my best for you. I am a dominant writer with (typically) no problems issuing plot, but please don't make me carry you through the whole thing! I am also a longterm RP-er- I don't know how to just "end" one RP to start the "next." Time skip transitions are fine enough when things get dull, so I prefer to keep everything altogether. Thanks for understanding! >u<
